Gen Con Australia - The Countdown Begins

For many months, people have been asking for more information about Gen Con Australia. Now the wait is almost over.

In February we started the countdown of 500 days until we open the doors of Gen Con Australia to the public. Now though we'd like you to join us and be part of this celebration. Register your name, e-mail address and location on the Gen Con Australia website, and we'll keep you up to speed with all the Gen Con news and developments as they happen. Even better, you'll go into the draw to win some great prizes!

March 2007 is iPod month, so we'll be giving away iPod shuffles to four lucky winners drawn from names on our mailing list. All you need to do is register NOW at the Gen Con Australia website and join the countdown!

Prizes will be given away each month just for registering on the site. And boy do we have some prizes planned!

Australia's Best Four Day Games Expo

Thanks for that update Ian. The most common questions I am asked at LXG is "Is Gencon looking for people to submit role-playing events or boardgame events for the Con.

It may be that much of this is the domain of games companies who will be organising events. can you fill us in on what the protocols/timetable might be.

For example, Terry Krause would like to design and run an RPG event but neds to know how he goes about organising this for Gencon, what the accepted duration of the game should be etc.

Those are good questions, and I'll add them to the FAQ. The simple answer at this time is yes, we are looking for people to submit games and events. The official timetable states that the 5th November, 2007 is the date that submissions may commence, however I will more than likely move that forward to late May to give people a chance to formulate their ideas.

By moving the date forward, it will also help us to gauge the resources needed to house those events.

I can also tell you that the deadline for event submissions will end on the 10th March, 2008. That won't change.

Also, in the next month (that being April) I will be asking for people who may be interested in volunteering their time for this event. I will subsequently hold a meeting to address questions, and layout the plan we have for Gen Con Australia.

Like many events, the key players will be volunteers helping in roles such as GMs, referees, operations, and registration. We are also looking for forum moderators, and people who have a flair for writing, and who may be interested in writing for our monthly newsletter.

I'll be posting periodically with further information.

As a side note, if people have feedback, please post openly here or e-mail me at [e-mail]. Also if there is a game system that you want to see at the event, my suggestion is to lobby the manufacturers of that game to attend Gen Con. Some companies have been non-committal but may be swayed by consumer requests for their attendance at the event.

Well. I'm a big Days of Wonder fan and would be happy to run a series of tournaments of their popular tiles - such as Memoir 44, Battlelore, Ticket to Ride and Cleopatra, Pirate's Cove and the Society of the Architects.

I envisage packaging the event as the Gencon "Day of Wonder" with tournaments running through the same day. If they know there is local volunteer support for running tournaments in their games it may help you approaching them.
