Congratulations to Ado and his Dwarves of Death, winners of Legend Bowl 2008!
Despite coming rock bottom of the league, Ado piloted his team to two well-deserved wins to take out the ultimate prize.
Semi Final 1: Orcadians versus Dwarves of Death
After knocking two Black Orcs out of pitch in the first turn, the Dwarves of Death took a tight grip on this match and never let go. In all six orcs ended up in the 'dead or injured section'. The Orcadians finished with just five players left standing, even though they started the match with thirteen! For their part the Orcadians were unable to inflict a singe injury or to score a touchdown. A dwarf blitzer strolled to the end zone to score twice to secure a classic romp for the Dwarfs.
2-0 to the Dwarves of Death
Semi-Final 2: Couronne Saints versus Smashing Bashers
The second semi-final featuring Orcs was a less one-sided affair. The Smashing Bashers opened the scoring early with a classic touchdown that involved them basically owning the pitch. The Saints fought back, and after full time the score was even at 2-2. We were into sudden death - the next team to score would be the overall winner. The Smashing Bashers' inability to take the humans off the pitch permanently proved their undoing, as it was the Saints who scored first with a fine breakaway touchdown.
3-2 to the Couronne Saints
The Final: Dwarves of Death versus Couronne Saints
The stage was set for a classic finale, Dwarfs versus Humans. No Orcs or Elves invited! Just for the occasion the Dwarfs hired a star player, a chainsaw-wielding Dwarf. Nice....
The chainsaw dominated attention, if not play, for the first few turns, until he was sent off after a brave foul attempt on a prone Ogre. And they say chivalry is dead...
The Dwarf frontline was the true star of this game though, totally dominating play, and coping with the Ogre with the help of a Dauntless Trollslayer. With four Guards out of five Dwarf Blockers, the Humans found themselves facing a high amount of assists for almost every block. Dwarfs did hit the turf now and again, but their heavy armour and thick skulls protected them from lasting harm. The humans were not so fortunate, with two players suffering crippling injuries.
Ball possession remained mostly with the dwarfs and it showed. The usually high-scoring Saints were unable to cross the line all match. It was the Dwarfs who did the scoring this time.
By the middle of the second half, the Saints were 2-0 down, they thought it was all over...
and it was!
