What do orchestras, sci-fi movies and video games have in common? Not all that much… until now.
This month, the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra will journey to anew realm, when they present An 8-bit Collection – a performance of music from some of the most famous video games of all time.
In one of the first concerts of its kind by an Australian youth orchestra, BRYO players will trade Mozart and Beethoven for the music of games like Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Halo, Tetris, Zelda and Super Mario.
The orchestra will also play a special orchestration of David Arnold’s Stargate Overture, from the 1994 film Stargate, which has been prepared by Brisbane composer Scott Buckley.
As orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Eminence Symphony Orchestra enter the digital age, video game music is becoming the next big thing.
This is a melding of the old and new in the music world never before seen in Brisbane. The concert is being held on October 24, at the Cannon Hill Anglican College, Brisbane.
Food and outdoor entertainment will start at 10am, with the concert to kick off at 1.30pm.
Tickets are $8 per person and can be ordered at bryo.org.au .
Better hurry, before it’s Game Over.
