Looking for something fun, interesting and a bit different to do with Magic at this year's December meeting? Got 45 Uncommons you don't really use? Thought so!
Last year for something different we had the Christmas colours grand melee. This year of course will be the final of the melee league and that should go ahead as normal.
For those wanting to do something else Magic related, try this: The Uncommon Draft.
All you need are 45 uncommons, divided into 3 'packs' of 15. (details below)
For the Draft we will need exactly 8 players. No more, no less. If anyone has more than 45 uncommons spare they would like to bring, we can lend out spare 'packs' to those who don't have any but want to play.
Drafting works like this. Each player looks at the pack in front of them, takes one card, and passes the remainder of the pack to their right. Repeat until you get passed a single card. Then everyone starts the next pack, but this time passes the cards left instead of right.
You build your deck (minimum size 40) using only the cards you have drafted plus basic land. In a draft the '4 of' limit does not apply.
We then play one another using our draft decks, for two or three rounds. Then we can start all over again.
It is important to note that you keep the cards you draft; not the cards you bring.
Packs must be put together like so:
15 Magic: The Gathering Cards
Maximum of 5 cards of any one colour
Maximum of 2 Land cards per pack
No more than 1 copy of a card in a pack (so you can bring 3 of the same card to the table, as long as each is in a different pack)
All cards must be clearly marked as Uncommon - that is, with the set symbol in silver. Sorry, older cards without this cannot be used
Cards that have been printed at Uncommon and also at other rarities, only the Uncommon versions, clearly marked as above, can be used.
An uncommon draft would be a fun way for us to use cards we've never used much before, or thought were useful. Strange combinations can carry the day!
Let me know if you're interested in joining in. We would need 8 players.
